From Seed to Jar

How Devi Grows, Nurtures, and Harvests Cannabis the All-Natural Way

When we grow Devi cannabis, our process is guided by emphasizing the connection between human beings and the natural world.  We use techniques that harness the natural elements, and match care and patience with innovation and science–the result is the finest herb on the planet.

1. In addition to our own award-winning in-house genetics, Devi collaborates with expert breeders and geneticists to source seeds.  Each year, we germinate up to 1,000 seeds for research and development from a wide spectrum of popular strains as well as other strains which are less readily-available.

2. After the seeds are germinated, the plants’ growth is monitored and plants are evaluated for structural integrity, and the appearance, fragrance, and development of the flowers.

3. Flowers from plants which pass these initial criteria are harvested, cured, and move on to research and development, where Devi’s in-house connoisseurs smoke and evaluate whether the final product is smooth-burning, flavorful, and potent.

4. Plants that excel in the R&D test are cloned, and steps 1-3 are repeated to ensure the strain will grow reliably at scale.

Steps 1-4 of this process in which strains are tested and refined is commonly referred to as a Pheno-hunt, and can take as long as 2 years!

5. When a strain is moved into production, clones are cultivated in the nursery where they’ll grow for about a month.

6. Plants are then sent to flower, where they grow in Devi’s mixed-light greenhouses on a diet of spring water and natural organic nutrients, and compost teas.

7. After 3 months, plants in mixed-light greenhouses are harvested; and after 8 months full-term natural sunlight plants are harvested and evaluated for the manufacturing of hash and other concentrates.

8. Freshly-harvested flower hangs in a climate-controlled room to dry and establish an initial cure.

9. The cured flower is trimmed by hand, and goes into a second cure for up to three months  to achieve optimum flavor and texture.

10. The finished product is packed with care into Devi jars before being distributed throughout California and sold at local dispensaries in Los Angeles and the Bay Area.
